Xronia Polla, Happy Summer

June 24, 2021 by Dimitri

Woohoo! Summer officially arrived this week, leaving you with three whole months to kick back, enjoy the sunshine, or better yet, hop on a plane and head to Greece!

The Sunday of All Saints – Των Αγίων Πάντων

June 27th is All Saints Sunday, celebrated on the Sunday after the Feast of Holy Pentecost. All Saints Day commemorates all the known and unknown saints, prophets, apostles, martyrs, teachers, and monastics not yet canonized by the Church. Usually, we wish those who don’t have a patron saint a happy name day on this day. Χρόνια πολλά σε όλους!

Words From a Saint

“Evil walks in small steps. If it were to come all at once, we would not be deceived”. Saint Paisios

Greek + Local

Here are a few fun Greek things happening in and around our great city:

  • The Greek Grill. Just steps away from Greektown, The Greek Grill is located at the northeast corner of Pape & O’connor. They offer tasty Greek-style home-cooked meals (e.g. moussaka, pastitsio), as well as traditional souvlaki dinners, gyros, and even kondosouvli. Are you strapped for time? Don’t fret; they even offer a wide range of frozen products from their in-house market to take home and put straight on your barbeque. Don’t live close to Greektown? No worries! Visit their food truck tomorrow or Sunday at the Brunswick Bierworks located at 25 Curity Ave. in East York. Cheers!
  • Little Italy. Say what? Yes! Little Italy has a hidden gem. Holy Trinity Panagia Grigoroussa Greek Orthodox Church, located at 54 Clinton St. Check out their Facebook page for regular updates and religious resources.
  • Cafe Serano. Well, finally, a few weeks ago, they were allowed to open the patio, and as always, they’re still making those fantastic Freddo Espressos and ever so tasty soft-dipped donuts.  Did I mention they also have a gelato counter, which includes pagotinia?

Greek Music

A song definitely to add to your Spotify playlist. Already nearly 600k views and less than a week since the official release date of June 18th. This looks like it’s going to be the 2021 summer hit! Enjoy!
