Things May Be Getting Better

July 15, 2021 by Dimitri

Roller-Coaster Year

It’s been a roller-coaster year since the pandemic came into our lives.

Back in March 2020, the weekend after Friday the 13th, pretty much everyone was advised to work from home, or if you owned a small business, close up shop for a couple of weeks. Weeks became months, and working from home was the new norm.

Well, today, 1 year and four months later, we are a day away from Ontario’s Step 3 reopening plan.

This Friday seems a little different, a Friday where restrictions are easing up, people are going out, and many will be able to visit some family at larger gatherings.

Here are some of the significant changes happening with the move to Step 3:

  • Indoor dining now permitted (no limit for # of people per table)
  • Indoor gatherings increasing to 25 & Outdoor gatherings to 100
  • Gyms, casinos, theatres, concerts etc. opening at 50% capacity
  • Real estate open-houses permitted without an appointment
  • Face masks are still a requirement in indoor public settings in step 3

In The Community

On March 25th, the Government of Ontario (in honour of our 200 years of Greek independence) announced they would be making a $325,000 contribution towards the creation of the Museum of Greek Canadian Heritage at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada. This collection of artifacts will serve as a way to preserve our history, pay tribute to our Greek heroes, and educate all Canadians about our Greek culture and Greek heritage.

In preparation for this unique project, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada is reaching out to all Greek-Canadians for their input on what should be included in the museum. In addition to suggestions, they are also open to artifact contributions as well. All correspondence should be directed to: website@goarchdiocese.ca

Words of Wisdom

“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” – Plato.

Greek Music

Music always has a way of lifting one’s mood. Creating a go-to music playlist either on Spotify or Apple Music is a great way to keep all those songs you like in one place.

Here is one for the list, premiered Jul 2, 2021, Nikos Vertis – S’ Agapao. Click here to watch it!
