Ζήτω η Ελλάδα

October 28, 2021 by Dimitri

Καλημέρα, Happy Thursday

Today we celebrate a major historic Greek event, ΟΧΙ DAY.

On October 28, 1940, Greek prime minister Ioannis Metaxas said “ΟΧΙ“ to an ultimatum message from dictator Benito Mussolini, demanding free entrance and occupation by the Italian army in Greece.

Undeniably, the decision to say a flat-out NO played a significant role in Greece’s future freedom. Ζήτω η Ελλἀς!

Words of Wisdom

“You see, the Greeks may have a whole lot of faults and blemishes in their character, but they have one gift from God: philotimo and leventia (bravery).”

-Saint Paisios
