Καλημέρα!
August has arrived, and while the weather this summer hasn’t been the greatest, today and tomorrow, they’re calling for some lovely sunshine.
Depending on how many vacation days you have left, this may be an excellent month to take a little break from work to relax, refresh and recharge before the school year begins!
Words of Wisdom
“It is important to take a break from work, even if only for a little while.” Saint Paisios.
Feast of the Transfiguration-Blessing of the Grapes
Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord. It is customary for grapes to be blessed and distributed to the faithful after the divine liturgy. Other than grapes having a direct connection to the wine in the eucharist, we are reminded of their symbolic meaning as well. Grapes cannot survive away from the vine or ripen on their own (we are the grapes, Christ the true vine). Just as the grapes depend on the vine and the sun, etc., to ripen, we must draw towards God to bear the necessary spiritual fruits. Therefore when we become “ripe in faith” we become “ripe” for transfiguration.
